Breelyn Wilky--

"Why did you choose to specialize in sarcoma?
As an oncology fellow, I was exposed to many patients with various types of cancer, but sarcomas are a rare group of tumors. There are more than 100 types of sarcomas, and each has its own characteristics. In addition, treatment for sarcomas tends to be challenging and often requires a complex, multidisciplinary approach. When I began my fellowship, not many physicians were focused in this area because of these significant challenges.

I specialized in sarcomas because I saw a void in the research and treatment of these tumors and noted that these diseases tend to impact young and otherwise healthy patients with few or no risk factors. At that point in my career, I saw the potential to become an expert and have a large impact in a narrow field."
