Society of Surgical Oncology's 60th Ann. Cancer Symposium

Post by Olga »

The Society of Surgical Oncology's 60th Annual Cancer Symposium March 15-18, 2007 in Washington, DC has ended and abstracts are avail. for a viewing here:

http://sso.abstractcentral.com/viewer
if you search by the word "sarcoma" in a "Abstract Body Keyword Search +" field there will be 18 abstracts found. Of interest are two presentations of the success with the different limb perfusion techniques from MSK
#53 M. S. Brady
Isolated Limb Infusion (ILI)for Patients with Advanced Extremity Melanoma and Soft Tissue Sarcoma. Final Report of a Phase II Trial

and from Moffit
#P136 by M. G. Moller
SINGLE AGENT EXPERIENCE OF HYPERTHERMIC ISOLATED LIMB PERFUSION FOR EXTREMITY SARCOMAS

both report a success which often allows to save a limb and resect the advanced sarcoma primary.

Also of interest is the presentation #82 by J. C. Gutierrez
"Should Soft Tissue Sarcomas be Treated at High-Volume Centers? An Analysis of 4205 Patients"
it gives a good rationale to demand the referral to the major sarcoma center as it clearly states:
"STS patients treated at High-Volume Centers have significantly better survival and functional outcomes. Patients with either large (>10 cm), high-grade or truncal/retroperitoneal tumors should be treated exclusively at a high-volume center."
