I felt back to full strength 2 days after discontinuing the steroids. I'm pretty much at 95% physically.
The incision still hurts enough with pressure that I can't sleep comfortably on that side. It's like a painful bruise.

So my head still hurts. This pain is not bad, it doesn't require any medication. I haven't taken a single painkiller after this surgery, unless they had something in the IV. I guess the bone just requires a bit longer to heal. The cut is healing fast, and getting overgrown with hair rapidly. Physically, I am somewhere above 95%. Lifting heavy weights, biking intervals, etc.
Amanda, I rarely remember I have ASPS.

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Amanda, how long do you figure - a month? I can't really notice the pain reducing, although it's not very high to begin with honestly.
Got the results of my bone scan today. The reports mentions the date of the last scan, which was Sep 2010 - wow, it's been a while! No mets, although my ankle does have some kind of an injury, probably a fracture. The radiologist reports "a focus of moderately intense increased activity in the more lateral aspects of the right mid to hind foot ... this appears to be in the area of the subtalar joint or the anterior calcaneal tubercle". I'll go see a regular doctor, armed with this report and see what they suggest.

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Hi Ivan,
I just asked him an he said the real pain was the first week....
BUT i do know bones heal different an it is VERY painful! Remember i had a lot of my 8th rib removed. It depends on where they went in i am sure... what is the dr saying?
The anti inflame are very important an you shouldn't be in a lot of pain now
If in any way you think this is ASPS in the bone or joint please contact my Onc at ceders asap get a second opinion from him he is wonderful an you are very athletic! Its worth the call an sending him the info! I have seen him do things to help cancer patients that are amazing!
Dr Brian 310-423-9887

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Amanda, at this point we have no reason to suspect that the fracture in Ivan's foot is related to ASPS, it looks like the normal sport injury - this is the area where he landed at when jumping at the volleyball - and he is going to consult with the ortho doc soon, as it was recommended by his oncologist. Probably they can tell by the intensity and the type of the increased signal that the damage is not the met?

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Hi Olga,
I am so happy to hear that its probably not ASPS!
I am not sure if they can tell... for years they thought *Regular doctors* the rib ASPS met i had i my 8th rib was some form on arthritis *They were way wrong on that* it eat my rib >< It doesn't sound like ASPS to me from what you are saying an i am so happy! if it is though please get Dr Brian involved! He is very good an has done thing that many cant ... Ivan being an athlete must be able to be that athlete... If there is a suspision call ask what they would need to review tell them Amanda Rush the other ASPS patient referred you an i will also make calles to them if you want to help with this. I wouldn't be pushing this Onc unless i really felt his opinion would be worth wild. Let me know

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Amanda, it's an injury. Actually had a CT scan for my ankle and the bone is not damaged - only soft tissue inflammation in the ankle - which is excellent news. I'll be booking an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Tuesday. They'll tell me what structures are affected, and then come up with a rehab regimen.
Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Odd my reply to you did not post :/
Anyhow.. I van i am really glad to hear that news!

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
I had an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Tuesday. My ankle is fractured. Having heard that from the doctor, and then having analyzed what it means for me personally has made me realize the following. It's worse than getting a thoracotomy for me, and even paying out of pocket for it.
Frankly, I am devastated and depressed. It may or may not heal and may or may not require a surgery - the only thing to do is wait. It's been 3 months and it could be 3 months to unknown up to a year or more.
I will lose my strength and I will not be able to play volleyball in the fall. I'd take 2 or 3 brain surgeries and multiple lung ablations over this any day.
In other news, I broke my cardio record from before my latest lung ablation today, so there you go. It was a very hard half an hour, but I was going to keep up the pace no matter what. My heart rate was 100% of my maximum at the end. Fortunately, biking is one thing I can do just fine with this crap.

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Wow!
Is there a specialist that can look at this? Sooner the better!
You need to be able to play in the Fall!
After all the crap we havebeen thru with this fing cancer this is not going to stop you!
There has to be someone that knows what to do now! Not in a few months now!

Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
Amanda, based on my understanding a conservative treatment may be better than a surgery. A surgery would guarantee a LONG recovery and it would most certainly mean that I couldn't play in the fall. I'll need to investigate further.
Re: Ivan rocking it since 2003
I hope it goes well!
I would opt no surgery also!
My surgery will be in Aug some time...
At least it wont be as bad s the last! But, its going to suck not being able to go to the gym an there will be the whole re had stuff for my shoulder and arm movement on the side we start on...
