Hey all
I found this write up interesting as blood work was used in preliminary diagnosis work up prior to biopsy
Also to point out the difficulty in diagnosis as per NIH-

"Because it has close clinical and imaging resemblance to common benign vascular tumors such as hemangioma, there is danger of misdiagnosis and, therefore, inadequate or delayed treatment. "

Hi Debbie

As I understood this, the patient had liver mets without having anything else anywhere on his body?

They say that only abdominal ultrasound abd chest X-Ray were done, not CT. Chest X-Ray would appear normal with the lung mets of 2-3 mm in size. They of course could find lung mets on the body examination after he died, but it is unclear if it was done at all or they only checked liver because they already found liver mets before.

Martin,

Did not mean to leave you guessing :(
Olga is correct. We will never know if lung tumors were before the liver tumors that were discovered.
However the data says since 1952 that this would not be the case.
Primary--bone--lungs--brain . The cold hard facts I am sorry to say
Yourself and Lee are able to say that you've discovered primaries at a young age and as well as a small primary stage below 5cmm--50 mm.

Please stay viligant and always ask questions.

My love
Debbie
PS
I will link Lee :)

Deb, you probably meant to post - the typical pattern of metastasis is like that:
primary--lungs--all of/one of: brain, bone, liver or other abdominal organs, soft tissue.
